Tuesday Tip: Don’t sweat it! (How Stress Affects Us)

Unless it’s running of course…then get super sweaty!

I went on a 5.5 mile run yesterday and it was hottttttt….but still an awesome run.  Then we went over to Mom’s for a mini cookout where Andrew cooked the awesomest turkey burgers ever, and I had my first Blue Moon of the summer (best.beer.ever.).

So today I took the day off for a doctor’s appointment (nothing serious, just a check up), but I’m such a spaz about every pain that my body has that I stress out about it to the point that it’s not healthy (and trying to Google the symptoms only leads to more panic.  So don’t do that).

I was also stressing about some other things that happened to today that both Andrew and my Mom said weren’t a big deal…and yet I was stressed anyways.  Why do I do that?!

I know that stressing about anything and everything is stupid and not healthy and can actually lead to various health problems. According to The Mayo Clinic, here’s how it affects us:

Stress effects

I’ve definitely had stress headaches, stomach aches, and problems sleeping from stress. And guess how much it helped…it didn’t!! I really need to learn not to sweat the small stuff (or the big stuff), because it just isn’t worth it.

The Mayo Clinic is pretty smart because they also published this article  about how exercise reduces stress.  It explains that exercise will increase endorphins (duh), improve mood, and it is considered ‘meditation in motion’.  The article also gives advice on how to make time for exercise and how to keep it a habit.

Moral of the story: Don’t stress.  And go for a run/walk/swim/bike/yoga/whatever you do to stay active and get those endorphins flowing.

Any stress relief advice? Besides running. and eating Reese’s (hehe…I don’t really do that.  Ok maybe sometimes).

Did you do anything fun today?

  1. I’m so sorry that you are stressed out. I am in the same boat :-(. I hope everything went ok at the doctor today!

Something fun from today…I taught Annabelle how to say “knee” and point to my knee. 🙂

    • Thanks! Everything at the doctor went well…I was just being a drama queen about some other things.

Annabelle is such a cutie and now she knows another word..a word she’ll probably use a lot when she becomes a runner 🙂
